AZ driver jobs near Cambridge and Kitchener: what it's like to drive for KTG

Thinking about driving for us? Here's an honest look at the lanes, the freight, the trucks and the people you'd be working with out of our Ayr terminal.

If you've got your AZ and you live anywhere around Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Brantford or Woodstock, you've probably driven past our yard on the 401 in Ayr. We've been hiring drivers from this area since 2004, and today we run more than 150 trucks and 300 trailers.

Every company says it's a great place to drive. Rather than do that, here's what the job actually looks like.

Where you'll be going

Most of our freight runs between Ontario and the U.S. Roughly 84% of the loads we deliver outside Ontario end up south of the border, mostly in Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky, Iowa and Wisconsin. Québec is our busiest run here in Canada.

What that means for you is steady, repeat lanes. A lot of our drivers run the same Midwest routes week after week. You get to know the customers, the docks, even which truck stops have the good coffee.

What you'll be hauling

Mostly dry van and reefer: packaging and paper, metal products, food and beverage, plastics, auto parts and retail goods. No flatbed and no tarping.

The trucks and the support

Our fleet is led by Volvo VNLs, and we've added 29 new tractors since 2023. When something does go wrong, our own shop at the Ayr terminal gets you fixed up and back on the road fast. We don't wait on an outside garage.

Dispatch is staffed 24/7, so a real person picks up whether it's noon or 3 a.m. Trucks are set up with ELDs, collision mitigation and forward-facing cameras.

Crossing the border

Since so much of our work goes into the States, we hold FAST, C-TPAT, PIP and CBSA bonded carrier status, which all help crossings go smoother. If you already have a FAST card, great. If you've never crossed before, that's OK too. We'll walk you through it during orientation.

Who we're looking for

  • AZ company drivers, domestic and cross-border
  • Team drivers for dedicated and expedited freight
  • Owner-operators who want steady freight with an established carrier
  • Mechanics, warehouse staff, dispatchers and office staff

Applying

The online application takes about five minutes. Have your licence class, your years of experience and your last three years of driving record handy. A resume is welcome, but you don't need one.
